Edo State Governor Monday Okpebholo Celebrates PDP Defeats, Vows Continued Progress

Edo State Governor and Senator Monday Okpebholo has declared that the repeated defeats of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the state are a cause for celebration for Edo residents. The governor made this statement following a recent victory motorcade in Benin City, celebrating the Appeal Court’s ruling in favor of the All Progressives Congress (APC).

Joined by his deputy, Dennis Idahosa, alongside APC leaders, youths, and market women, Okpebholo expressed gratitude to God for granting the state continuous victories in the political arena. “The PDP keeps giving us reasons to celebrate. We beat them in the governorship election, at the Tribunal, and now at the Appeal Court. We’ll beat them again at the Supreme Court,” he stated confidently.

The Appeal Court on Thursday upheld Okpebholo’s election as Edo State governor, dismissing the appeal filed by the PDP and its candidate, Asue Ighodalo. The court ruled that the appeal lacked merit, with Justice Mohammed Danjuma delivering the lead judgment. The judge noted that the PDP failed to provide sufficient evidence of any electoral malpractice in the September 21, 2024, governorship election.

Governor Okpebholo praised President Bola Tinubu for his support and highlighted the progress Edo State has witnessed under APC leadership. “Edo people will support President Tinubu again in 2027. No one can silence the voice of the people—not even the PDP,” he asserted.

Addressing accusations from PDP leaders who claimed their mandate was stolen, Okpebholo accused the opposition of attempting to influence the courts using stolen funds. However, he applauded the judiciary for standing firm on truth and justice. He also criticized PDP’s efforts to form coalitions modeled after political figures like Atiku Abubakar and Peter Obi, labeling such alliances as doomed to fail.

“The time of PDP in Edo is over. Under my leadership, we will continue to give Edo people real development,” Okpebholo affirmed. He pointed to ongoing infrastructure projects, including the flyover at Ikpoba-Hill, with plans for two more flyovers to ease traffic congestion and boost economic activities.

The governor’s victory motorcade around Benin City was a jubilant display of APC unity and public support, signaling a strong message ahead of future political battles in Edo State.
